Your Local

You’re local? So are we. Mission work starts right here, in your local area, or at least pretty close to it.

What is mission?
Most people think of mission as going overseas. But mission is really just living your life for God and loving Him and others, wherever you are. Mission is about building relationships, so there's no reason why you can't be on mission all the time!

You really don’t have to go too far to be part of a ‘cross-cultural’ mission.
A culture is a way of life, a certain specific selection of rules, practices and customs. Every group of people has their own culture, and so when they meet with another group of people, they are crossing cultures.

Think about your school, your university or your workplace. What kind of culture are you a part of? What would it take to speak to another culture in a way that they would understand?

That’s mission. One culture meeting another and building relationships, by speaking in a way they can understand.

There are mission trips that go into very different cultures, often overseas, sharing God’s love to the ends of the earth. These sometimes take a bit of preparation because other cultures will often have different customs, some VERY different. Something that might be normal behaviour in your everyday life might be totally offensive to someone from another culture. It’s important that you learn about these differences before you go so that you can give building relationships overseas the best opportunity to thrive!
